Demolition derby is “Saturday night fever” at rural showgrounds. Silence the crowd is standing waiting, silent. “Mum when does it start?” can be heard echoing amongst the younger audience. Then the roar of engines, they race into the centre and the beginning of a fast, loud, crashing, reversing, circling run of demolition cars compete for the local money that makes them this year’s winner. Rural communities depend on their local shows to reassure them that during times of drought and bushfires all is good with the world. This book will introduce to the fun of the competition and the associated dangers of a demolition derby.
